My little sister's husband is taking weekend classes all the way out in San Jose. It’s a beast of a commute for him, but leaves the weekends for Kels and I to have a bit of fun! (Not that we don’t have enough time to have fun together every day at work plus at the gym at night! Lol. This weekend, Kelly and I trekked back to our old homeland, Vallejo. We went to Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Growing up in Vallejo, Discovery Kingdom used to be called “Marine World Africa USA.” There were no rides, just a park full of really great animals and animal shows, plus one really, really awesome playground for kids (which has since been removed and replaced with much “safer” equipment – tragically!) I actually worked at the park when I was 16& 17 during the summers! I worked in the Gift Shops, the Fudge shop (yum!) and I was a balloon girl, lol. Yup, the girl who walks around the park selling silly animal-shaped balloons. Hahaha. (I don’t think they do that anymore though…)

Since we moved away from Vallejo in 1997, Six Flags bought out the park and has been busy transforming it into a busy, very commercialized park full of roller-coasters an various carnival rides.
Luckily the animals are still there! Kelly and I had a great time ogling over the lions, tigers and giraffes! (sorry, no bears!) The giraffe and I became very good friends and even had a tounge-sticking-out-contest. He won.

We also saw the Sharks,

Dolphins (missed the whales), Elephants

and some Camels. There was even a Stingray petting pool. It was nowhere as cool as swimming with them in the Caymen islands, but still a thoroughly, amazingly fun experience! They’re like slimy cats… I know that doesn’t exactly sound very appealing, but it’s the coolest thing!!!
