This is a Funny Word

My Aussie friends Ken and Pat were sitting in the front of our mini-bus with our trusty Jordanian tour guide, Omar. They were going over our route on a Map and Ken, after looking up and around at the landscape turned to Omar and said: "This looks quite a bit like the outback!"

Omar looked genuinely confused and replied "Out-in-back?"

Ken, realizing it was fairly useless, said: "Out-back. Yeah."

Omar: "Out-back. This is a funny word."

Sometimes things just get lost in translation across languages and cultures and "the moment" doesn't last long enough to make an explanation pertinent.

Well. At least we have maps.
